Granting sanction to prosecute 21 social networking websites including Facebook,Google,yahoo and Microsoft the Union government of India on 13/01/20012(Friday) said there was a lots of material to proceed against social media for offenses of promoting allergy between different people doing acts prejudicial of coalescence and hosting contents that is provocative assertive and propagates prejudicial to national integration.The department of I.T placed report before a Delhi court after which the court directed the minister of external affairs to get summons served on over 12 companies that are based on Dec 23.
The court observed that offenses are punishable under section 292,293 and 120-b of the IPC section could be made against accused.This matter has been listed for future hearing.
